Casting for our Opening and Closing Ceremony is now closed.

Q: What opportunities are available for those who want to participate in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies?
A: The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will bring together up to 700 incredible volunteer cast members, group members or athlete volunteer marshals, to take part in both live and pre-recorded moments of the show.
Roles range from symbolic community moments and welcoming the athletes, to high-energy dance numbers, scripted performances, storytelling and so much more.
Q: When and where will the auditions for be taking place?
A: The deadline to apply is 24th April (subject to close if demand is high) and auditions will take place in Glasgow on 9-10 May.
If you’re selected to attend an audition, you will be emailed the location details along with your audition date and time slot. The auditions are closed call, which means there will be limited time slots available with attendance by invitation only. Group members will be contacted separately.
Q: If my application is selected, what are the next steps?
A: If your application has been selected to go through to the next stage of the selection process, you will be notified via email and invited to an audition.
Q: If I’m invited to an audition, what should I bring and what can I expect to do?
A: Audition Duration: up to 2.5 hours
Here’s what to expect:
- When you arrive, we’ll check you in for your time slot.
- We’ll check your Identification Document and take a new photo for Games Time Accreditation and casting/costume purposes.
- We’ll verify your body measurements to help plan costumes.
- Then it’s time for your audition. Don’t worry, it’s relaxed, fun, and a great chance to show your energy!
What to wear and bring:
- Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and trainers are best.
- Keep personal belongings to a minimum, as we can’t take responsibility for lost or damaged items.
After the audition:
- If there are more applications than roles, some applicants may be placed on a reserve list and notified later.
Q: I’ve been selected for an audition, what should I do if my audition time is no longer suitable?
A: If you’ve been selected at the application stage and have been invited to audition, you will receive the date and time of your audition in your invitation email. Please email casting@glasgow2026.com to inform Casting who can aim to reschedule you or provide your slot to another applicant.
Q: Can a theatre, dance, sports or performance group apply?
A: The application is created for individuals but members of groups may apply. There is a section in the application where we ask you to provide more details about your community or dance group, where we can reach out separately for more specialised roles.
Q: Will accommodation be provided?
A: No. Accommodation will not be provided at any stage of the process.
Q: If I don’t have a mobile number, can I provide a home telephone number?
A: Yes.
Q: Why do you ask about reasonable accessibility adjustments?
A: We want to ensure that applicants with disabilities or specific requirements receive appropriate support throughout the process, including auditions. This information is used for operational planning only and does not affect selection.
Q: Will faith and accessibility needs be supported?
A: Yes, quiet spaces will be available.
Q: Why do you ask about gender, faith, special assistance or dietary requirements within the application?
A: This information helps with accreditation and operational planning. It doesn’t affect the selection process. We aim to support volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities.
Q: Can I apply if I don’t live in Glasgow?
A: Yes. However, all auditions, rehearsals and Ceremonies will take place in the Glasgow area. Please consider the required time commitment, travel arrangements and associated costs, as we cannot cover these costs.
Q: What is the time commitment to be involved as a Volunteer Cast Member / Athlete Volunteer Marshal?
A: If selected, you must commit to all required rehearsals, including dress rehearsals and the Ceremonies themselves.
- Rehearsals run 26th June–2nd August 2026
- 2–4 evening or weekend sessions per week (up to 4 hours each)
- Additional full-day and evening rehearsals in the four weeks before each Ceremony
- You will receive a detailed rehearsal schedule for the segment(s) and role that you will be offered. Attendance at all required rehearsals is essential.
Q: Can under-16s take part?
A: Yes, but we will not hold public auditions for under-16 roles. These positions will be filled through local and national partner organisations and associated with local community group engagements. Please look out for further opportunities through www.glasgow2026.com
Q: Will travel or accommodation be provided?
A: We’re unable to cover travel or accommodation costs for auditions, rehearsals or performances.
Q: What security checks are required?
A: All applicants will undergo a background security check to ensure the safety and security of the Ceremonies.
